maurice jones
Maurice was born in Burnie and is a long term resident of Penguin. He grew up on a dairy farm in the Burnie area and completed an electrical apprenticeship after leaving school. He then moved into the communication industry, spending 26 years with PMG / Telecom / Telstra firstly in the technical area and later in management, all in the northwest of Tasmania.
In 1996 he started his own business in the Information Technology area, with his daughter taking over the business in 2017 as he moved into retirement.
Maurice is active in a range of community groups - these include Penguin Lions Club (held all office bearer roles including some at state level), Penguin Cricket Club (secretary, treasurer), Radio Sailing Tasmania (foundation Chairman), Northwest Radio Yacht Club (currently treasurer), and is foundation president of Penguin Men's Shed where he is currently secretary. Former groups include Central Coast Chamber of Commerce, Neighborhood Watch and Penguin Miniature Railway.
He has a keen interest in ensuring good governance for volunteer organizations and has trained many people in various committee roles with this in mind.
He enjoys spending time at the Shed, and encourages all to focus on “Men” as well as “Shed”.
Maurice is happily married to Maureen and values time spent with family.
