SOUTHERN REPRESENTATIVE
lyndley chopping
Born 1945. Farmed in Derwent Valley at ‘Blackwood' Ouse.
Involved in many community organisations and served on industry Associations. President New Norfolk Rural Youth Club, State Vice President; played football in New Norfolk and Ouse football teams; Rodeo riding; Chairman Southern Dairymen’s Association.
Married to Sue, have 3 children.
I volunteered with Tas Fire Service (44 years) as local Fire Captain and later on State Fire Management Council; TFGA; inaugural local Landcare group, State president (5 years) and on inaugural National Landcare Network Executive and State Natural Resource Management Council; Parish Council; Apex Club; President of Poppy Growers Tasmania (7 years).
Retired back to Kettering, now sailing and bush walking.
In 2011 when Peter Shelley was asking for interested people to join him in a foundation committee to form a Mens Shed at Margate, I was more than happy to join his committee. The pleasure of building the Channel Mens Shed with others from the ground up gives me a real affinity with the Shed. Seeing it used now by people from all walks of life is very satisfying as a committeeman (even helping fundraising).
I was elected to the Tasmanian Mens Shed Association in 2019 and sit on the Health sub committee.
’The opportunity of sheds to provide so much life experience, swap skills (and stories), and have companionship, is just so valuable.’
